Article 5 of the Saudi Bar Association Statute

This is a short but important article, as it sets the composition of the general assembly of the Saudi Bar Association: it consists of all core members.

Limiting the assembly to core members has the following consequences:

• Affiliate members and honorary members are not part of the general assembly, because the text limits it to core members.
• Someone whose membership has ended for one of the reasons in Article 4 leaves the assembly accordingly.

Article 6 regulates the assembly's meetings: it holds its ordinary meeting within 90 days of the start of each financial year of the Association, and a meeting is valid only with at least half the members attending; if the quorum is not met, an invitation is sent for another meeting that is valid with those who attend, and decisions are made by a majority of the votes of those present. A lawyer who is a core member therefore has the right to take part in these meetings and vote on their decisions.

This article comes after Article 4, which lists the cases in which membership ends, so someone whose membership has ended is no longer one of the core members who make up the assembly.
