Article 10 of the Saudi Military Retirement Law

This article identifies the salary adopted as the basis for calculating retirement entitlements, which is the last salary the military person was receiving. It applies to two matters:

• The retirement pension: it is settled on the basis of the last salary.
• The award provided for in Article 9: it is also granted on the basis of the last salary.

The award in Article 9 is what a military person who is not entitled to a pension is entitled to, in cases other than those mentioned in Article 7. For someone whose service ended for an ordinary reason it is calculated as the salary of one month for each of the first five years of actual military service, the salary of two months for each of the following five years, and the salary of three months for each year beyond that. For someone whose service ended by a disciplinary ruling or dismissal for absence or for committing a crime, it is the salary of one month for each of the first five years and two months for each year beyond that, unless the ruling provides for depriving him of it.

This article therefore answers the question: which salary is multiplied by these numbers? The answer: the last salary the military person was receiving.

"Salary" here means, as defined in Article 2, the salary fixed for the military person under the salary scale to which he is subject, and it does not include raises, allowances or compensations. The last salary here is therefore the last salary under the scale, without allowances.

Anyone with a dispute over the salary on which his pension or award was calculated may refer to the body competent for retirement, or consult a lawyer specializing in administrative cases.
