Article 8 explained in plain English
This Article governs the end of membership in the Consumer Protection Association and its consequences.
Cases of loss of membership:
- Death.
- Removal of membership by decision of the General Assembly.
- Resignation submitted in writing.
- Loss of one of the conditions of membership in Article 6, for example being convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust without being rehabilitated, or losing full legal capacity.
- Intentionally causing serious material or moral harm to the Association (intentionally).
- Falling behind on the subscription for more than 6 months from the start of the Association's financial year, after being notified by letter at the address recorded with it.
Who decides loss of membership? Except for death and removal by decision of the General Assembly, loss of membership is decided by the Board.
Reinstatement: the Board may reinstate the membership of a person who lost it for not paying the annual subscription, if they pay the amount due. Reinstatement is at the Board's discretion and limited to this reason.
No refund: a member, their heirs, or anyone who has lost membership may not recover what they paid to the Association in subscriptions, donations or gifts, whether in cash or in kind, for any reason.
Practical example
Majed fell behind on his annual subscription. The Association sent him a letter at the address recorded with it, and more than six months of the financial year passed without payment, so the Board issued a decision that he had lost membership. If he later pays the amount due, the Board may reinstate his membership, but he cannot claim a refund of subscriptions from previous years.
