Article 6 explained in plain English
This Article governs membership of the Consumer Protection Association and divides it into three types:
1. Working member: a person who applies to join the Association and meets the following conditions:
- Is a citizen interested in the field of consumer protection.
- Has reached 18 years of age.
- Has full legal capacity as recognized under Sharia.
- Is known for moderation and good conduct, and has not been convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated.
- Pays the prescribed annual subscription.
- Has the application accepted by the Board.
A working member may stand for election to the Board after one year from the date of joining.
2. Associate member: meets the conditions for a working member except the age condition, so may be under 18. An associate member may attend General Assembly meetings, but has no right to vote or to stand for election to the Board.
3. Honorary member: a person to whom the Association grants membership in recognition of outstanding services, material or moral, that they have given it. An honorary member may attend General Assembly meetings and take part in discussion of what is raised there, without the right to vote or stand for election to the Board.
The key difference is that voting and standing for the Board are limited to working members. The Article does not specify the amount of the annual subscription.
Practical example
Reem is a 16-year-old student interested in consumer protection. She cannot be a working member because she has not reached 18, but she can apply for associate membership if she meets the other conditions and the Board accepts her application. She would then attend General Assembly meetings without voting or standing for the Board.
