Article 26 explained in plain English
This article governs the period of service of a major general, and its provisions are:
The rule: if a major general has spent three years in service and no order extending his service has been issued, he is retired.
Extension: his service may be extended for a period renewable several times; the official text uses the word "ستين" (literally "sixty"), and an editorial note on this page explains that what appears to be meant is two years. The extension is:
- by decision of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
- on the proposal of the Prime Minister.
- and after the recommendation of the Minister.
The limit: all of this applies unless he reaches retirement age in his rank before that; reaching retirement age ends the service even if the period has not been completed or there is an extension.
In practical terms, a major general's service is limited in time and does not continue automatically after it, but needs an express order of extension from the highest level. The phrase "and no order extending his service has been issued" is understood to mean that the absence of the order means retirement.
This wording is in force by Royal Decree No. (M/58) dated 30/11/1403 AH. The article does not set the retirement age itself. Anyone who wants to know his position precisely may consult a lawyer specializing in administrative cases and military service matters.
