Precautionary Measures and Closing Food Establishments in the Saudi Food Law

A preventive approach is adopted and technical systems for food safety are imposed. Precautionary measures are taken where harm is possible without conclusive scientific evidence, and reviewed within a reasonable period. A food establishment or its facilities may be ordered closed where there is a possible risk to public health.

- Article 29
The Authority may adopt the appropriate preventive approach to ensure food safety throughout the stages of the food chain, and may impose the technical systems that achieve it.
للهيئة اعتماد المنهج الوقائي المناسب لضمان سلامة الغذاء خلال مراحل السلسلة الغذائية، ولها في سبيل ذلك فرض النظم الفنية الكفيلة بتحقيقه.
- Article 30
Article 30 allows the Authority to take precautionary measures if it believes food may harm health without conclusive scientific evidence, weighing the potential harm, avoiding unnecessary restrictions and reviewing them within a reasonable period.
إذا توافر للهيئة ما يدعوها للاعتقاد بأن الغذاء قد يسبب أضراراً على صحة المستهلك أو الصحة العامة، ولم يتوافر دليل علمي قاطع يؤكد ذلك؛ فيجوز لها أن تتخذ التدابير الاحترازية اللازمة للتحكم في المخاطر، مع مراعاة حجم الضرر المحتمل، وتفادي فرض قيود غير ضرورية، ومراجعة تلك التدابير خلال مدة معقولة في ضوء نتائج تقويم المخاطر.
- Article 31
Article 31 allows the Authority to order a food establishment or any of its facilities closed where there is a potential danger to consumer or public health, per the procedures in the Regulations.
للهيئة إذا كان هناك خطر محتمل يهدد صحة المستهلك أو الصحة العامة في منشأة غذائية، أو مرافقها، أو أيِّ محتوياتها، أو منتجاتها؛ أن تصدر أمراً بإغلاق هذه المنشأة أو أي من مرافقها وفقاً للإجراءات التي تحددها اللائحة.
