Article 29 explained in plain English
This article sets out the scope of application of the provisions of the chapter on agents, trustees, carriers and carriage of goods. The conditions and provisions set out in this chapter are in force and applied to:
- Ship captains.
- Managers of vehicle companies.
- Hired carriages.
- Dispatchers.
- Camel owners.
- And all those who carry goods without limitation.
The last phrase makes the scope wide, so the provisions are not limited to the means named, but cover anyone who carries goods whatever his means.
Among the provisions of this chapter that thereby extend to these persons is what Article 28 provided, that the two claim periods begin from the date of receiving the items or the last installment of them, and that the claim is brought at any time if it appears that the damage or loss occurred through a trick or breach of trust by the carrier himself.
If you have a dispute with a carrier of any type, these provisions may be relevant, and it is advisable to consult a lawyer who specializes in commercial cases to determine what applies to your situation.
