تنقسم لوحات المركبات إلى الأنواع الآتية:
1 - اللوحات الخاصة ، وتشمل الآتي:
أ - لوحات المركبات الخاصة .
ب - لوحات مركبات النقل الخاصة .
ج - لوحات الحافلات الخاصة .
2 - اللوحات العامة ، وتشمل الآتي:
أ - لوحات مركبات نقل عام .
ب - لوحات الحافلات العامة .
ج - لوحات مركبات الأجرة .
3 - اللوحات الدبلوماسية والقنصلية .
4 - اللوحات المؤقتة .
5 - لوحات مركبات الأشغال العامة .
6 - لوحات التصدير .
7 - لوحات الدراجات الآلية .
وتحدد اللائحة فئات هذه اللوحات ومواصفاتها، وشروط إصدارها، وكيفية المحافظة عليها.

- إضافة فقرة تحمل الرقم (9) إلى هذه المادة وذلك بموجب المرسوم الملكي رقم (م/207) وتاريخ 1445/9/28هـ، وتكون بالنص الآتي:
" 9- لوحات المقطورة ونصف المقطورة".
