Article 93 explained in plain English
This article regulates field leave, in five paragraphs:
- Duration and splitting: an officer serving in the field is entitled to field leave of not more than 60 days. It may not be split except to the extent of 15 days after the end of every three months, or 30 days after the end of every six months.
- Granting authority: it is granted as provided in Article 89, that is, with the approval of the Minister or his delegate if outside the Kingdom, and by heads of bodies, commanders and directors if inside it, with the Officers Affairs Department notified.
- No combining: field leave and ordinary leave may not be combined.
- Lapse on transfer: the officer's right to use field leave lapses after his transfer from the field, while his right to use ordinary leave remains.
- Tickets: an officer granted field leave is given a round-trip ticket for himself alone inside the Kingdom: first class from the rank of major and above, and tourist class from the rank of captain and below.
The practical meaning is that an officer in the field benefits from longer leave, but it is tied to his remaining in the field, so if he is transferred from it his right to its balance lapses, while his right to ordinary leave remains. The ticket is also for him alone, not his family.
An officer who has been transferred from the field and has a question about his balance may consult a lawyer specializing in administrative cases and military service matters.
Practical example
Captain Abdulmohsen works in a field unit, and after three months he took 15 days of his field leave and was given a round-trip ticket for himself alone inside the Kingdom in tourist class. He was then transferred to office work, so his right to the rest of the field leave lapsed, and his right to ordinary leave remained.
