Article 108 of the Saudi Officers Service Law

This article regulates the field daily allowance for officers during maneuvers, collective exercises and projects, at fifteen riyals a day as amended by Royal Decree No. (M/56) dated 20/9/1397 AH. For it to be paid, the following must be observed:

• (a) It is paid to the joint forces in mobilization exercises for units at company level and above (as worded by Royal Decree No. (M/25) dated 9/11/1406 AH).
• (b) The duration of the project must be no less than 72 hours and no more than 45 days, and it may not be exceeded except with the approval of the Chief of the General Staff.
• (c) The project must take place in field service conditions with permanent accommodation and subsistence during the project.
• (d) It is not paid together with the secondment allowance, nor for periods of leave and absence.
• (e) Its payment must be based on a decision of the Chief of the General Staff.

The practical meaning is that the field daily allowance in maneuvers is not automatic for every training activity; the exercise must be a mobilization exercise at company level or above, its duration must fall within the stated limits, it must be in real field conditions with permanent accommodation and subsistence, and a decision of the Chief of the General Staff must be issued for it.

The officer also may not combine it with the secondment allowance, and it is not counted for days of leave or absence. A person with a dispute over its payment may consult a lawyer specializing in administrative cases and military service matters.
