Third: working procedures:
- It has a secretariat that coordinates its work, and it meets at the headquarters of the National Committee for Narcotics Control.
- Its chairman serves for 3 years, renewable once only, rotating between the Ministries of Interior and Health, and is chosen by the Minister of Interior in agreement with the Minister of Health.
- It meets periodically every 3 months, and may meet at the chairman's request when needed. It issues its decisions by majority.
- It may seek the help of specialists and add whatever procedures it sees fit to facilitate its work, and it is supported financially and technically by the General Secretariat of the National Committee.
The practical importance for families is that a request for treatment may be submitted by the addict or a relative to the bodies the Committee designates. The article does not name those bodies. Anyone who needs guidance in a specific case can consult a lawyer who specializes in criminal cases.
Practical example
A mother in Riyadh notices her son's addiction and wants him treated. The article permits a request for treatment to be submitted by one of the addict's ascendants, so she takes it to the body the Committee for Considering Addiction Cases has designated to receive these requests.
