Article 6 explained in plain English
This Article sets the date the Commercial Agencies Law takes effect: it is put into effect three months after the date of its publication. So the Law does not apply as soon as it is published, but after a period that allows merchants and the bodies concerned to arrange their positions.
This date has an effect on other provisions; for example, the period that Article 2 gave to agents who do not meet the conditions is counted from the date the Law took effect, that is, from the end of these three months.
The record of amendments attached to this Article includes texts added to the Law later, among them:
- Royal Decree No. M/5 dated 11/6/1389 AH: forming a body in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry by decision of its Minister, of three members, to apply the penalties in the Commercial Agencies Law and the Law of Weights and Measures, with the possibility of appealing its decisions.
- Royal Decree No. M/32 dated 10/8/1400 AH: added articles, including that the Commercial Agencies Law applies, without prejudice to any other laws, to everyone who contracts with the producer or whoever takes his place in his country to carry out commercial business, whether as an agent or a distributor in any form of agency or distribution.
The details of these additions are in their full texts, and anyone who needs to know their effect on an existing distribution or agency contract can consult a lawyer specialized in commercial cases and agencies.
