يقصد بالألفاظ والعبارات الآتية– أينما وردت في هذا النظام– المعاني المبينة أمامها ما لم يقتض السياق خلاف ذلك :

الفنادق والشقق المفروشة والمنتجعات وغيرها من الوحدات المعدة للإيواء السياحي، بما في ذلك الوحدات العقارية السياحية الواقعة في مكة المكرمة والمدينة المنورة.

حق انتفاع شخص بوحدة عقارية سياحية لمدة محددة، أو قابلة للتحديد من السنة بموجب عقد المشاركة بالوقت.

Article 1 explained in plain English
This is the definitions article, to be referred to in order to understand the rest of the Law's provisions. The most important of them are:
- Tourist real estate units: hotels, furnished apartments, resorts and other units prepared for tourist accommodation, including units located in Makkah and Madinah.
- Timesharing: a person's right to use a tourist real estate unit for a specified period, or one that can be specified, of the year under a timesharing contract. It is a right of use, not ownership of the property.
- Timesharing contract: a contract or group of contracts concluded for a specified sum of money, for a specified period or one that can be specified of the year repeating for at least three years, by which a right of use of one or more units is created or assigned, or any other right.
- The property: a building or part of a fixed building designated for residence to which the right that is the subject of the contract relates.
- The buyer: a natural or legal person to whom the right that is the subject of the contract passes or for whose benefit it is created.
- The seller: a natural or legal person who creates the right of use on a commercial basis, or assigns it, or undertakes to assign it.
- Credit: a form of financial facility.
- The Ministry: the Ministry of Tourism, and the Implementing Regulations: the Implementing Regulations of the Law.
The amendment record shows that the definition of the (Authority) was amended to become (the Ministry: the Ministry of Tourism) by Council of Ministers Resolution No. (96) dated 5/2/1442 AH, and that the definition of the timesharing contract was also amended to the text shown.
