Article 8 explained in plain English
Once a request to begin seeking reconciliation reaches the committee, it takes three steps:
- Checking that the request meets the conditions stated in Article 7: the Supreme Court's affirmation of the judgment, the request coming on the direction or with the permission of the Emir of the Region, and the case not being one of the excluded crimes.
- Opening a file for the case containing:
- The Emir of the Region's direction to begin the work of seeking reconciliation.
- A copy of the judgment deed.
- The details of the case, information on the victim, information on the convicted person, a report on him and on his situation in prison and his conduct, and his criminal record.
- Assigning one or more of the committee's members to take on seeking reconciliation, who must provide the committee with a periodic report on the progress of his work.
The contents of the file show that the committee relies on comprehensive information about the case and the convicted person, including his conduct in prison. The text does not specify how often the reports are made.
