Article 12 of the Saudi Human Rights Commission Statute

This article creates a center for publishing, media, documentation and translation in the field of human rights.

Management: it is run by one of the full-time members of the Commission's board, on the nomination of the Commission's President.

Objectives:

• Contributing to spreading the basic principles and concepts of human rights that accord with the provisions of Islamic Sharia, and rooting their culture.
• Building relations of cooperation with international bodies and governmental and non-governmental institutions working to advance human rights.

Its tasks in particular:

1. Supervising the organization of conferences and seminars held in the Kingdom on human rights.
2. Spreading a culture of human rights, including comparative studies between Islamic Sharia and international instruments, raising citizens' awareness, and using educational, media and cultural institutions.
3. Preparing bulletins, magazines and publications related to the Commission's objectives.
4. Preparing the annual report on the Commission's work before referring it to the Commission's board.
5. Organizing courses in the Kingdom to raise awareness of human rights for staff of the bodies concerned and other interested persons.
6. Documenting matters relating to human rights, and translating from and into Arabic.

Note that the article ties the principles and concepts the center publishes to being in accord with the provisions of Islamic Sharia. The awareness courses are also open, under the text of the article, to staff of the bodies concerned and to other interested persons.

This article is linked to Article 13, which makes the human rights departments and sections in the ministries or relevant government agencies a liaison point for the Commission.
