تتولى الهيئة المهمات الآتية:
1 - تسجيل جميع الأوقاف في المملكة بعد توثيقها.
2 - حصر جميع الأموال الموقوفة، وبناء قاعدة معلومات عامة عنها.
3 - النظارة على الأوقاف الآتية:
أ - الأوقاف العامة والخاصة (الأهلية) والمشتركة؛ إلا إذا اشترط الواقف أن يتولى نظارة الوقف شخص أو جهة غير الهيئة.
ب - أوقاف مواقيت الحج والعمرة.
4 - إدارة الأوقاف التي يكون لها ناظر غير الهيئة، وذلك بناءً على طلب الواقف أو الناظر.
5 - الإشراف الرقابي على أعمال النظار، واتخاذ الإجراءات النظامية لتحقيق أهداف الوقف دون الدخول في أعمال النظارة، وذلك باتخاذ ما يأتي:
أ - الاطلاع على التقارير المحاسبية السنوية التي تعد عن الأوقاف.
ب - تقديم الدعم الفني والمعلوماتي للنظار.
ج - تقديم المشورة المالية والإدارية بما لا يخالف شرط الواقف.
د - تكليف ممثل عنها لحضور اجتماعات الجمعية العمومية، أو اجتماعات مجالس إدارات الأوقاف التي ليس لها جمعيات عمومية؛ عند بحث التقرير المالي السنوي للوقف.
هـ - طلب تغيير المراجع الخارجي.
و- تحريك الدعوى - إذا لزم الأمر - أمام القضاء لعزل الناظر الذي يخفق في تحقيق أهداف الوقف، أو يفقد شرطاً من شروط النظارة.
6 - الموافقة على طلبات إنشاء الأوقاف العامة والمشتركة التي تمول عن طريق جمع التبرعات، أو الهبات، أو المساهمات، وإصدار الأذونات اللازمة لها.
7 - تحصيل إيرادات الأوقاف التي تكون الهيئة ناظرة عليها، وإنفاقها على الأغراض الموقوفة من أجلها؛ بما يحقق شرط الواقف، وذلك بالتنسيق مع الجهات المختصة إذا استلزم الأمر ذلك.
8 - تحصيل إيرادات الأوقاف التي تكون الهيئة مديرة لها، وإنفاقها على الأغراض الموقوفة من أجلها؛ بما يتفق مع عقد الإدارة ولا يتعارض مع شرط الواقف، وذلك بالتنسيق مع الجهات المختصة إذا استلزم الأمر ذلك.
9 - اتخاذ الإجراءات اللازمة للاستفادة من الأموال الموقوفة (الثابتة، والمنقولة) خارج المملكة على أوجه برّ عامة داخل المملكة - بالتنسيق مع وزارة الخارجية - وإنفاق إيراداتها على مصارفها.
10 - اتخاذ الإجراءات اللازمة لتطوير العمل الوقفي من خلال الآتي:
أ - الدعوة إلى الوقف وتسهيل إجراءاته، وتقديم المعلومات والمشورة والمساندة الممكنة للواقفين، والنظار، وكل من يرغب في الوقف.
ب - تطوير الصيغ الوقفية القائمة، والسعي إلى إيجاد صيغ وقفية جديدة، والتنسيق في ذلك مع الجهات ذات العلاقة.
ج - الإسهام في إقامة المشروعات الوقفية، والنشاطات العلمية والبحثية؛ بما يعزز تنمية المجتمع، ويحقق شروط الواقفين، ومقاصد الوقف، وذلك بالتنسيق مع الجهات الحكومية وغير الحكومية.
د - نشر الوعي في المجتمع بأهمية الوقف، ودوره الاجتماعي والاقتصادي، وعقد الندوات والمؤتمرات وغيرها من النشاطات التثقيفية، وإجراء الدراسات والبحوث في مجال الأوقاف.

- Collecting and spending income: for endowments of which it is the supervisor, in a way that fulfills the endower's condition; and for endowments it manages, in line with the management contract and without conflicting with the endower's condition, in coordination with the competent bodies when needed.
- Endowments outside the Kingdom: taking the necessary measures to use endowed property outside the Kingdom for public charitable purposes inside it, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
- Developing endowment work: calling for endowment and facilitating its procedures, developing endowment formats, contributing to endowment projects, and spreading awareness and conducting studies.
