Answering legal questions

How do I answer legal questions?

Who can answer, answering from the question page or Questions for you, your profile card under the answer, and editing your answer.

Last updated:

Visitors post their legal questions in the “Legal questions” section, and your answer appears under the question with your profile card: logo, name and badge, city and practice areas, rating with the latest review, a short bio, how many questions you've answered, and View profile, Contact and Book a consultation buttons (booking shows when your plan includes it and consultations are switched on).

Who can answer?

Any lawyer who owns a published listing in the directory (their claim was approved), verified or not:

  • Verified listing: your answer shows the green Verified badge and ranks first.
  • Unverified listing: it shows a neutral Not verified yet badge, after verified lawyers' answers. Verify your licence to get the badge.

If you don't have a listing yet, press Answer this question on any question page: you create your account, link or create your listing, then come back to the question. The steps If your claim is still under review, write your answer now and press Save my answer; it publishes automatically on approval.

Answer from the question page

  1. Open any question in Legal Q&A while signed in.
  2. Under the answers you'll see the Answer this question form. If you have several listings, pick which one to Answer as.
  3. Write your answer (80 to 8000 characters) or start from an AI draft if the button shows.
  4. Press Publish answer.

You can answer visitors' questions and the common questions published by our team.

Answer from Questions for you

  1. Press Questions for you in the lawyer dashboard or open Questions for you.
  2. The list shows questions you haven't answered, sorted by how well they match your practice areas and city and by those with no answers yet. Switch between “In my area and city” and “All questions”.
  3. Press Answer this question under one and follow the same steps.

One answer per listing per question is allowed.

New question alerts

When a visitor's question is published in your practice area (or a closely related one) and in your city, or with no city, you get an email linking straight to the answer form. We send at most one email a day; if several questions are published the same day they arrive together in one email.

Edit your answer

  • Published answer: press Edit your answer under it on the question page, then Save changes.
  • Answer under review or not published: the question page shows its status with an Edit answer button.

The edited text goes through the automatic check again and may go to review. Under My recent answers on Questions for you, each answer has an Edit link.

After publishing

The asker is notified by email (for visitors' questions), and your answer appears on the question page, on your listing, and in “Most active lawyers” on category pages. The asker may pick it as “Best answer”. See My answer wasn't published.
