Article 11 explained in plain English
This article sets the minimum equipment with which every private hospital must be equipped, in two parts:
First: medical equipment and services:
- The necessary medical devices and equipment.
- A laboratory and a radiology unit, according to the hospital's specialties.
- Special isolation rooms.
- Intensive care beds.
- All necessary emergency services.
All of this is as the Implementing Regulations determine; the Law does not specify the number of isolation rooms or intensive care beds.
Second: the internal pharmacy: the hospital must have an internal pharmacy that meets the conditions and specifications under the Pharmacy Practice Law and its Implementing Regulations. Here the Law refers to another law and does not state those conditions.
Note that the phrase "according to its specialties" relates to the laboratory and radiology unit, whose size and type vary with the hospital's specialties. Isolation rooms, intensive care beds, emergency services and the internal pharmacy are stated without this qualification.
The article concerns the hospital in the sense of Article 1, that is, a place equipped to receive patients, treat them and admit them as inpatients.
It is preceded by Article 10, which requires the hospital to provide the necessary number of doctors, pharmacists, nurses and technicians according to its capacity and classification, so the two articles together set out the staff and the equipment. It is followed by Article 12, which requires every health institution to report infectious diseases.
Practical example
A private hospital specializing in orthopedic surgery in Riyadh is preparing for licensing. It must be equipped with the necessary devices, a laboratory and radiology unit suited to its specialty, isolation rooms, intensive care beds, emergency services, and an internal pharmacy in accordance with the Pharmacy Practice Law.
