1- يجوز منح الضابط إجازة دراسية للدراسات العليا بناءً على توصية لجنة الضباط العليا ولمدة لا تتجاوز أربع سنوات.
2- تحتسب الإجازة الدراسية ضمن الخدمة بالقوات المسلحة.
3- تطبق أحكام المادة (81) على الضابط المجاز إجازة دراسية.
4- يمنح الضابط المجاز إجازة دراسية مع زوجته وأولاده تذاكر إركاب مرجعاً إلى البلد الذي سيدرس فيه حسب الدرجات المنصوص عليها بالمادة (47) ولمرة واحدة.
5- يصرف للضابط المجاز إجازة دراسية للدراسات العليا راتبه الأساسي وبدل السكن فقط.

This Article regulates study leave for postgraduate studies, in five paragraphs:
- Grant and period: it may be granted on the recommendation of the Higher Officers Committee, for a period not exceeding four years.
- Counting the period: it is counted as part of service in the Armed Forces.
- Obligations: the provisions of Article 81 apply to the officer granted leave, that is, compliance with the regulations the Higher Officers Committee issues on the duties and prohibitions of an officer on assignment, and avoiding anything that harms his reputation or his country's.
- Tickets: the officer is given, with his wife and children, return tickets to the country where he will study, according to the classes of Article 47 (first class for major and above, tourist class for captain and below), and once.
- Financial entitlements: he is paid his basic salary and housing allowance only.
The important restriction appears in paragraph (5): an officer granted study leave receives only his basic salary and housing allowance, and the word "only" means that the other allowances and increments are not paid to him during it.
The leave is nevertheless not lost from his service, but counted within it. An officer who is considering applying for study leave and wants to assess its financial effect may consider consulting a lawyer specializing in administrative cases and military service matters.
Practical example
Captain Faisal obtains admission to doctoral study abroad for four years, and is granted study leave on the recommendation of the Higher Officers Committee. During it he is paid only his basic salary and housing allowance, and he and his wife and children are given round-trip tickets in tourist class once, and the four years are counted within his service.
