Official text (Arabic)
This article has not been amended since the law was issued.

Article 7 explained in plain English
This article sets a practical safeguard against errors with samples, based on double verification:
- Who verifies: at least two specialists of the fertilization unit; one person is not enough.
- What they verify: that the identity and the medical record number of both spouses match.
- When: at three stages:
- when collecting samples.
- when fertilizing.
- when transferring the zygote and embryos.
The evident purpose of this ruling is to ensure that the sperm is the husband's and the egg is the wife's, and that the zygote or embryos are returned to the wife who is the source of the egg. Under Article 1, the zygote is the egg fertilized by the husband's sperm cell, and the embryo is the fertilized egg divided into two or more cells in the first two weeks.
This article follows Article 6, which requires explicit written consent from both spouses to the method of treatment after they are informed of its procedures and risks. It is followed by Article 8, which prohibits interfering with the sex cells or genes except to treat hereditary or genetic diseases that the supervision committee permits.
Anyone who suspects an error occurred with their samples may consult a lawyer specializing in health regulations.
Practical example
In the in vitro fertilization laboratory at a hospital in Khobar, before transferring the embryos to the wife's uterus, the doctor and the technician together reviewed the spouses' names, identity and medical record number on the sample and confirmed that they matched before the transfer, applying this article.
