Article 34 explained in plain English
This article deals with treatment for members outside the Kingdom, in two paragraphs:
(a) Those working abroad: they are paid a monthly treatment allowance in accordance with the provisions prescribed by the Implementing Regulations, so its amount and conditions are in the Regulations.
(b) A member seconded or on scholarship outside the Kingdom: he is treated at the Government's expense, and this includes his family members whom he supports under Sharia if he is entitled to take them with him under this Law. The text requires:
- That the illness and the treatment are supported by medical documents.
- That the documents are approved by the military attaché or by the representative offices in the country where the treatment took place.
The article expressly excludes cosmetic operations, which do not fall within treatment at the Government's expense "in any case".
The difference between the two paragraphs is that a member working abroad receives a monthly allowance, while a seconded member or one on scholarship is treated at the Government's expense according to the case, with proof by documents. Anyone refused compensation for treatment abroad may consult a lawyer specialized in administrative matters and military service affairs.
Practical example
Sergeant Anas was sent on scholarship to study abroad and took his family with him under the Law, and his son fell ill there and needed treatment. The son is treated at the Government's expense, provided the illness and treatment are supported by medical documents approved by the military attaché or the representative office in that country.
