Article 33 explained in plain English
This article establishes the right of free treatment for the member and his family. Its elements are as follows:
- Beneficiaries: the member, and his family members whom he supports under Sharia.
- Place of treatment: military or government hospitals.
- Geographic scope: inside the Kingdom.
- Cost: at the Government's expense.
The important limit in the text is that the family members covered are those the member supports under Sharia. Article 2 defines the member's family as including the persons registered in his family register, and the article here adds the description of Sharia support, so mere kinship without support is not enough.
Note that the article speaks only of military or government hospitals and does not mention private hospitals, and that it concerns treatment inside the Kingdom; treatment outside it has other provisions in the Law. The article does not set out the referral procedures or the type of medical services covered.
Anyone who has been refused treatment for himself or for one of his dependent family members may consult a lawyer specialized in administrative matters and military service affairs.
Practical example
Corporal Saleh supports his wife and children and his mother, who lives with him and whom he provides for. Under the article, he and they are entitled to treatment at a military or government hospital inside the Kingdom at the Government's expense, provided they are among those he supports under Sharia.
