Article 5 explained in plain English
This article sets the prescribed fee that an applicant for a license to open a private health institution pays or for its renewal; the same fee applies to the first license and to renewal.
Hospitals (by number of beds):
- Fifty beds or fewer: SAR 5,000.
- From 51 to 100 beds: SAR 10,000.
- More than 100 beds: SAR 15,000.
Other institutions:
- General medical complex: SAR 2,000.
- Specialized medical complex: SAR 2,000.
- Medical laboratory: SAR 2,000.
- Day-surgery center: SAR 2,000.
- Clinic: SAR 1,000.
- Radiology center: SAR 1,000.
- Supporting health service center: SAR 1,000.
- Ambulance transport service center: SAR 1,000.
These types of institution are the same ones defined in Article 1. Note that the fee for a hospital rises with its capacity, while the other fees are fixed for each type.
The fee is linked to Article 4, which makes the license period five years, renewable, so the stated fee is paid at licensing and at each renewal. The article mentions only the license fee and does not address any other charge that other bodies may impose.
Article 6 follows, which provides for classifying institutions at licensing or renewal according to criteria set by a specialized committee.
Practical example
An investor wants to renew the license of a private hospital in Qassim that has 80 beds. Because the number of beds is between 51 and 100, the prescribed fee for renewal is SAR 10,000.
