Article 29 explained in plain English
This article establishes the right of the member alone to travel both ways by one of three means: being carried on one of the armed forces aircraft, being provided two economy class passenger tickets, or being paid the equivalent of the value of the economy ticket. This applies in the following cases:
- (a) Secondment inside or outside the country for a period not exceeding a number of days that does not appear in the published text.
- (b) If the medical report recommends his treatment outside his place of work inside the Kingdom or abroad, or appearing before a medical board, or for the medical examination specific to the work at a place other than his place of work, with a companion carried if his health condition requires it.
- (c) Granting him field leave.
- (d) Summoning him to appear before an investigation or trial board.
- (e) The Government calling him to give testimony before a court or board outside his place of work.
- (f) Sitting competition tests at a place other than his place of work if the interest requires it.
- (g) Assigning him to attend sports festivals, parades or ceremonies.
- (h) The death of his wife, one of his parents or one of his children inside the Kingdom while he is outside it on secondment, on scholarship or working abroad.
- (i) Attachment to work in an area other than his area of work for a period not exceeding 90 days.
- (j) Scholarship in a training or study course not exceeding six months.
The essential limit is that the article concerns the member alone, except for the companion in the medical case. Anyone who needs to determine their case precisely may consult a lawyer specialized in administrative matters and military service affairs.
Practical example
Sergeant Hassan works in Hail, and the medical report recommended his treatment at a hospital in Riyadh, and his condition requires a companion. Under paragraph (b) he is carried both ways on an armed forces aircraft, or provided two economy tickets or their value is paid, and a companion is carried with him.
